Byoung Jo Kang

(강병조, 姜秉助)

Founder and President

Byoung Jo Kang, Esq., CPA (강병조) is a business lawyer with expertise in U.S. income tax.  Mr. Kang often represents domestic business entities, international businesses, U.S. taxpayers abroad, and foreign taxpayers in the United States.  Mr. Kang regularly advises high-net-worth U.S. and foreign individuals, families, multinational companies, as well as nonprofits, in connection with U.S. income tax issues.Mr. Kang frequently represents both domestic and foreign biotech, life sciences, and healthcare companies.  Mr. Kang assists these entities with a wide variety of issues, primarily including formation to financing; federal and state regulatory matters affecting operations; and M&A negotiation and transactional matters.

 

Mr. Kang is admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia,  the state of California, the United States Tax Court, and United States District Court Eastern District of Virginia. Mr. Kang is also a Virginia licensed Certified Public Accountant (licensed since 2005).

 

Mr. Kang earned his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law (2011), a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Regional Studies: East Asia from Harvard University (2002), a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Korean Literature from the Seoul National University (1999), and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Korean Literature from the Seoul National University (1997).  Mr. Kang is fluent in Korean and Japanese. 

 

Most recently, Mr. Kang served on the Board of Directors of Neoimmunetech, Inc., in Rockville, Maryland (2019-2024). Prior to establishing B.J. Kang Law, PC, Mr. Kang worked as an Attorney for Flott & Co., served as the Director of Finance and Administration for the National Communication Association, and as both the Controller and Vice President for the Middle East Institute (2007-2010).  Mr. Kang was employed at Diamond Properties, LLC as the Assistant Controller (2006-2007) and was a financial staff member for the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University (2002-2006).  In addition, Mr. Kang practiced as an Enrolled Agent, for eight years (2004-2012), in front of the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to coming to the United States, Mr. Kang co-founded one of the first online education companies in South Korea (2000).
